Daycare and Inpatient Hemithyroidectomy: A Cost Minimisation and Safety Study-Hospital Kuala Lumpur Malaysia Experience

Introduction: The duration of daycare surgery (DS) is relatively shorter compared to other types surgeries. main objective here provide comfort the patients and family members without compromising safety quality medical care for patients. In addition, there are many proven advantages DS such as waiting time, earlier return work, reduced cross-infections, cancellation rates due emergency cases cost-effective. Due constraints inpatient operating time availability hospital beds, thyroid performed in our centre. this study, we analysed cost-effectiveness between hemithyroidectomy. Methods: This cost minimisation comparative study was conducted Kuala Lumpur Hospital, Malaysia, from January 2019 June 2021. total each hemithyroidectomy providers were calculated both groups. Any complications two groups documented. Result: Seventy-one recruited: forty-one (57.7%) hemithyroidectomies thirty (42.3%) hemithyroidectomies. significantly lower than with a median percentile RM1089.00 (IQR= RM 339.48) 1477.10 (IQR = 434.02) respectively (p-value <0.001). None either group developed any surgical complications. Conclusion: Daycare minimises while still maintaining procedure. Therefore, cost-effective should be advocated all tertiary hospitals Malaysia.
